Best Motherboard to Upgrade an Old PC

So far, I am VERY impressed with this ASUS P5N-SLI LGA775 Motherboard. They have good email Tech Support, however their Wedsite needs to simplify their naming of the Specific CPUs that work with this Motherboard, as I had a hard time finding it. I can save you some trouble and let you know that I found out that the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, E7500, 2.93Ghz works VERY WELL with this board, and is on sale here on Amazon for a great price. A very NICE jump from my old Pent. 4, 3.0Ghz, which this board could have used, but I fried it and the motherboard in my old PC. Now with a New Motherboard, and new CPU, I just had to get a new CPU Cooler. Yes the CPU came with a Cooler, but I wanted a better than average CPU Cooler, and I found an outstanding deal here on Amazon, and got a ZEROtherm CF900. Large CPU Coolers will not fit this board because of two, tall black capacitors that are in the way, but the CF900 fits perfectly. I had some concerns at first because the CF900 had metal legs on the base that over-lapped some imbedded wires in the motherboard. Their Tech Support suggested that if I was concerned that the legs would wear through to the imbedded wires, all I needed to do was put some plastic tape on the bottom of the legs with a hole for the screws. The CF900 is working better than any CPU Cooler/Fan that I have ever owned. It keeps one Core at 97F and the other Core at 95F almost constantly, even after leaving the PC on for hours. If you are looking for a new Video card or two to go with this ASUS P5N-SLI Motherboard, I can HIGHLY recommend the "PNY GeForce 9500 GT 1024MB PCI-Express 2.0" SLI READY Video Cards. A pair of them will make the above a very good economic gaming mechine.

Motherboard replacement for E2020 Micro Velocity

Doesn't come with much except parts I didn't need or already had, but it fit the bill. I strongly suggest that if you do a MB replacement and you have never done it before, that you take the high-def image from here, print it out and label each connection with the color scheme of the connecting cable. It would also be a good idea to label them with a number, if you are really paranoid. Also, go to Radio Shack and get the silver-gray gunk that connects the CPU to the heat sink and fan (don't get the cheaper stuff; it's worthless). Be very careful when removing the pins around the CPU heat sink as they are very fragile. Lose one of those and you can forget about getting a good heat transference when you try to put it back together. I learned this the hard way and had to redo the CPU and fan when the system kept shutting itself down, because the processor was too hot. In the end, any problems I had with this MB were my own. If I do this again, I will buy a MB replacement that comes with the CPU and connecting cables. Cost a little more, but will save all kinds of headaches. The product arrived in perfect condition, carefully wrapped inside an electrostatic envelope and inside bubble wrap, then styrofoam packing inside a box. I would buy from this company again.

Excellent motherboard

I should have bought this motherboard years ago instead of XFX piece of garbage motherboard. The CPU works along with the ram, the slots of the extra cards is very reasonable, maybe I'll SLI the video card, or maybe not. But the main thing is I have the option to do so.
