Great Product!

Our kittens love this gym. This is the second one we purchased. The kittens truly love to climb up to the topmost platforms and scratch at the posts. Without this cat tree, we probably would have had to declaw. Not only do our kittens love this gym, but our little dogs enjoy sleeping in the condos and playing on the platforms as well. We bought this item twice, and each time the Vendor we bought from shipped the items extremely fast, no problems. It isn't very difficult to assemble, but you do have to be patient and see that all the lettered pieces are assembled properly according to the included instructions. Everything needed for assembly is provided. It takes about an hour. This cat gym is a terrific way to say to your cat or kitten, "I love you!"Sincerely,Joe

Only reasonably priced tree I could find big enough for my cats

The condos and perches on my existing tree are too small for my biggest cat, a Maine Coon who weighs around 22lbs. and is about 24" long (not counting his tail!), so I decided to shop around for something bigger. Surprisingly, I was unable to find anything big enough for him (even in the $300 price range!) until I found this model from Armarkat.I purchased this from a different seller with a discount coupon and have had it for about 2 weeks now and although it is not as good quality as I had hoped it would be, my cats love it and it is big enough for my largest cat, so 4 stars from me.Pros: (1) Both of the condos and all 3 platforms on this model are big enough for my biggest cat to fit in (and on) comfortably. (2) All my cats seem to like this cat tree - they were all over it from day one and use it every day. My big guy is ecstatic over finally having something big enough for him to fit in and he has appropriated the top condo for his very own, either sleeping in or on top of it every day. He has hopped up on the top perches a few times, but doesn't feel secure on them as they are only 15" x 15" and not quite sturdy enough for him (they shake every time he gets on them). However, my smallest girl kitty (who is barely 6 lbs.) likes the top side perches so they don't go to waste. I ended up removing the highest center perch - no one was using it and now that it is gone, big kitty has more space on top of the upper condo to sprawl in. (3) Since this tree will support 100 lbs., all my cats can climb on it at the same time, although I have to admit it shakes a lot when they leap around on it, but it seems reasonably sturdy. (4) The fabric covering is a very soft micro-plush that mimics the look of lamb's wool and all the columns are covered in sisal rope. All these coverings seems to be fastened on well and safely and all my cats like sharpening their claws on the sisal columns and kneading their paws in the soft fabric covering. (5) The parts screw together - screws are much more likely to hold together well than nails in this type of furniture so kudos to Armarkat for that.Cons: (1) The platforms, perches and condos are made of mason board, i.e. fiber board, and the columns of thick cardboard with plastic inserts - I was very disappointed in this as I thought "pressed wood" meant the pressed wood plywood, but that is not the case (fiberboard is more likely to crack and split over time than plywood and tends to swell up and disintegrate if it gets wet, as does cardboard). Additionally, although this is put together with screws, only one center screw is used for each connection so this is not as sturdy as I had hoped - it sways and shakes a lot when the cats leap around on it and the top perches are not sturdy enough for my largest cat. The somewhat cheap materials and construction are the biggest cons to this cat tree - I fear this won't last more than 3 or 5 years (hope I'm wrong!). Since this is the only cat tree I could find that had large enough platforms and condos for my largest cat, I will live with it, but anyone with smaller cats would be much better off buying or building a cat tree that is made of plywood, screws together and is covered with good quality rug, hopefully with some padding underneath (no loops, as cat claws get caught in loop carpet, and no toxic glues or other toxic materials). My existing cat tree is plywood and carpet - I've had it for 10 years and it is still in very good condition and rock solid (although on the small side for my big guy). If you have the skills, tools and time (which, sadly, I don't), you would be better off building a cat tree yourself from some of the great free directions on the web - it probably would cost the same or less than this tree, but would be made of better quality materials to your specific requirements. (2) The largest condo of this tree is on the ground, which is no fun at all - none of my cats use it. A huge improvement in the design of this cat tree would be to put the largest condo on the middle platform and have the middle platform be l-shaped (instead of a square and a separate little platform next to it). I am seriously thinking of trying to re-assembling this to move the bottom condo to the middle platform.Sort of Cons, Sort of Pros, depending on how you look at it: (a) The only color choice is white - seriously, WHITE for kitty play furniture? Oh, well, at least I don't have to worry about toxic dyes and it IS off-white at least (instead of bright white) - and I guess having to vacuum it often to keep it looking nice is a good thing for general cleanliness. (b) The material is terribly thin and really does not provide any padding - I ended up buying some inexpensive, machine-washable cotton mats and throws to put on the perches and in and on top of the condos. However, I have to admit this is probably just as well as the mats and blankets will help to protect the tree covering so it will hopefully hold up longer - and it is easy enough to throw the mats and blankets in the wash once in a while to keep things clean.January 16, 2012 update: I did end up reassembling this condo to move the bottom condo to the middle level and find it works much, much better that way. My cats use both condos now and the change does not seem to have negatively affected the sturdiness or stability of the tree in any way. I did NOT drill any new holes or use additional hardware, just rearranged a bit. I am NOT recommending or suggesting that others do this and take no responsibility, etc. for anyone who does so - if you elect to do this, you proceed at your own risk. To do this I used 4 of the longest leg tubes at each corner of the bottom square; this put the middle platform and small side platform at same height and I put them together to make an "L" shape and mounted the bottom condo on them. I then used 2 of the longest tubes and the shorty tube on this 2nd level to support the 3rd level. I then used mid-length tubes to put the 2 cat perches on, which actually works better than the longer tubes as the perches don't sway as much. This method means you are one screw short so you cannot mount the 3rd top center perch, but since I'm not using that one anyway, this works for me.
