Still nice though made in Taiwan.

I was disappointed to see this knife was not made in USA. (Taiwan) Factory edge is very nice. Blade is thin so I would not work it too hard. Not too thrilled with the sheath, but I do like the belt lock more then I thought I would. My main complaint about the sheath is the knife does not fit too well in to the sheath unless it is lined up just right. Then the sheath has a locking setup to hold the knife in place at the quillion/guard. I guess in the event you are upside down and do not have it clipped in..? Well removing it from this setup is difficult at best and I have to hold the sheath in place to yank it out. Over all I like the double sided edge, which is factory very sharp. I use my blades in sometimes wet and sometimes dirty environments, so time well tell how this one will hold up. The real truth is would I buy it again, probable not. It is a nice addition to my collection.

Really Cool knife! super sharp and feels great in the hand super ergo! great balance and weight. The Sheath is nice too nothing super special about it but very secure and well made. I believe this knife is made in Taiwan but its good workmanship none the less its not china crap. In my personal oppinion I like this better than the MK II by gerber...the modern version that is. good buy all around and really good for the price.

Blade grind flaw and smudge near hilt.

Evidently I can't get a replacement for this knife and like it enough to keep it. There is, on the blade, a place where the grinding is different from the rest of the blade. (It is visible whereas the rest of the blade is uniformly smooth and polished) If held in the right light is it very visible. Also, toward the hilt there is a small but noticeable smudge of some sort that cannot be cleaned off. This knife is a collectors knife, not a field knife where appearance is not as important. Please advise as I guess I got the last one in the world. I want this particular knife and want it perfect as an American product should be.

Nice globe with easy assembly

This globe is easy to assemble and has a nice solid wood foundation. I felt that Replogle is asking a bit much for the price, but was fairly happy. My globe has a few small areas where the latitude and longitude lines do not line up perfectly (which is why the four stars) but the defects are fairly small and hard to notice. Enjoy using it with my young son to teach him geography.

Item arrived in a timely manor packaged well with no damage.The description read Cherry "finish" hardwood so I did not expect Cherry wood and the stain color did match the Cherry tables and wood chest of drawers in the room. The problem I had was with sheen of the finish. The picture showed the wood finish to be full gloss or semi-gloss which would have matched the other furniture in the room however when it arrived the finish was "dead flat"and this looked awful and out of place. The solution for me was to lightly sand all of the wood and apply two coats of semi-gloss varnish. With this done the entire globe came to life and looked great.

a work of art

This chefs knife has served as a replacement for my henckels for five years now. Five years of hard work in numerous high volume kitchens. The spine is smoothed over to prevent serious cooks calus, and since the bolster does not extend all the way down to the edge its easy to sharpen the whole length of the blade. No bowing, no grinding. Also the blade is ground at a steeper angle than most german knives resulting in a sharper (altough more fragile) edge. I find the balance perfect for me if youre looking for something more blade heavy try japanese style knives, more handle heavy get a Dick or a henckels cermax. Also stick with a fine cut steel for this knife.

The best German knife to own.

I never owned a forged kitchen knife before. These are my first. After researching all the forged knives on my list, I finally decided on the Messermeister Merdian Elite. This model has the Classic handle. These knives are awesome. I've been using them daily for the last 2 months and they still haven't seen a steel. Super sharp right out of the box. Like German quality? What more knife for your money? Then you can't go wrong with these.

Perfect!

I dearly love this knife!I started with the inexpensive but highly rated Victorinox Fibrox, but ended up being scared of using the knife because I just couldn't keep it stable despite holding it properly.I tried this knife in a cooking class (KitchenOnFire) and fell in love immediately. This knife is very nicely balanced, with perfect heft, and it feels great in my hand. I'm not at all afraid of using it, and it performs flawlessly. It's really a joy to use.I started with a Wüsthof 4" mini-chef's knife until I could afford the real thing. I still use that knife, but the handle cracked (no, of course I never put it in the dishwasher). I noticed the handle of the Messermeister isn't so sharp at the edges; it feels more "organic" if that makes any sense.It really is a beautiful, thoughtfully designed knife. I'm so happy with this.

Understated Asian Elegance...

I am fascinated with Japanese culture, and had been looking for a quality contemporary, Asian bedding set for over a year. However, I didn't want the 'usual' Asian colors of red & black. This Natori bedding set was just what I was looking for. The color is a soft, elegant cream, and the cotton/silk fabric has a soft, luxurious feel at 400 thread count. For years, Cold Steel has tried to bring to market one of the devastating Chinese styled hatchets used with such awesome effect in countless Kung Fu movies. The Cold Steel version, the Axe Gang Hatchet, is an authentically formidable weapon, not just a prop for the cameras. Therefore we thought it was about time to offer premium sub-hilt performance at a more reasonable price, so we designed the Black Bear Classic. We use the same VG-1 San Mai III blade that is found in our famous Tanto series. The blades are perfectly heat treated and a double grind is expertly applied. Then the surface of the blade is polished to a beautiful satin finish, and the edges are honed and buffed to hair shaving sharpness! The black linen Micarta scales are fastened to the blade tang by 6 stainless pins and expertly hand shaped and contoured.

Beautiful Knife!

I bought this knife in attempt to find the ultimate fighting knife. It wasn't too off par.This knife is very well crafted. The handle is a huge step up from the Cold Steel OSS knife (which holds the same blade). It is a pleasure to hold, and feels very solid and well built. I LOVE the sub hilt (a big reason why I bought the knife in the first place). The blade was sharper out of the box than most knives. Its cutting power is exceptional. It has an excellent reach to it. I had read in other reviews that the sheath was a bit junky and tough on release, but on this I have to disagree. While it isn't the best sheath (I am going to have a custom built for it), the draw is relatively quick and effortless. It would serve well its intended purpose.Their are a few disadvantages. The greatest I believe is the price. The cheapest I have ever been able to find for this knife brand new is $255. I believe a more appropriate price for a knife of this build with this quality would be between $120-$150. A $255 knife should wow and impress me in almost every way. Another con would also be the sharpness. I guess my expectations were too high when reviews described how sharp it was, but compared to other knives I've purchased, I've seen sharper for less. That being said, this knife is very sharp right out of the box, which is a definite plus. Another disadvantage (in my opinion) is it is too much of a hybrid between a show knife and one you'd use for dirty, out in the field work. It is beautiful, and I'd feel bad subjecting it to any abuse (not knife fighting, but carrying it backpacking or hunting). But it is not beautiful enough that I could justify leaving it in a case without putting it to some use every once in a while. While fitting so perfectly between the two, it doesn't appear to be fully suited for either.But that's just my opinion of the knife that I got. No two of anything are exactly alike, and I wouldn't be surprised if another fellow got a blade that was sharper than any I have seen, while being a pain to draw from its factory sheath. But the knife I got is typical of what I believe Cold Steel produces; Highly functional works of art which sell for more than people generally feel they are worth. But if it's worth it too you, you won't be disappointed.

Not good enough,

This knife could of been made better. Blade is to thin, not wide enough, no bevel, does not cut good. I am almost thinking this is a chinese replica. This is the first cold steel product i've ever bought. I own gerbers, green rivers, spydercos, all sorts of tools. This blade should of been offered in black blade. Sheath is not good enough. Its not worth the money.I went to cold steel web site and looked at their specs on this knife. This knife weight is way off, the length of the blade is off, the stammping of the markings on the blade are not as advertised. In the process of returning it. My SV30 cuts better then this. The 20 USD mora knives cut better then this. But the seller will work with you, he will help you.
