5DeWalt leapfrogs the competition with innovative wet saw
By Victor H. Agresti
DeWalt D24000 10" wet tile sawHaving done tile work for years using mostly MK brand tile saws, when this saw came on the market, its benefits were obvious. Here's an analogy. At a car show when mini-vans were still fairly new, a salesman was showing his model, which had a sliding door on one side. Next to his display was a competing mini-van with sliding doors on both sides. He knew immediately that his mini-van was an obsolete design.Compared to this wet saw, every other model near this price point is an old-design.Here's why:1. DeWalt made this a LARGE capacity saw, but light enough for one person to carry. Although the tool is only 70 lbs., you never have to lift that much. DeWalt advertises "two trips" to transport the tool: Trip 1: Tub (water trays, miter and table extension, stored inside) and the fold-up tool stand. Trip 2: Saw assembly with rolling table locked in place, and water pump. (54 lbs., total).Rather than carrying an awkwardly shaped 54 pounds, I transport the tool in three trips: Trip 1: Saw assembly minus the pump and sliding table. (44 lbs., total.) Trip 2: Tub (with water trays stored inside) and a 5-gallon bucket holding the water pump, table extension, and miter gauge. The water pump is supposed to be secured to a slotted "mini-table" on the saw-assembly when being transported. Instead, a quick-release connector on the water line of my saw allows removal of the 3 lb. water pump. Click on customer photos. Trip 3: Custom made tool stand and a customer-made wooden carrying case with the 7 pound rolling table. The table has three sets of double rollers which could be damaged if it's dropped. The case protects the table when it's being stored or transported. Again, click on customer photos.2. The team that designed the water-containment system must have been told they'd get 50 lashes if it didn't work, because it's very effective. Other large wet saws regularly spray lots of water to the front, and drip water off the sides. Consequently, they make a mess of the areas surrounding the saw. Install the forward and right drip trays on this saw and nearly all water is trapped and routed back into the tub, with only minor dripping. (The trays are not as robust as they should be, so you have to be careful not to break the tabs that hold them on.) Most water spray is actually caught at the cutting point by the excellent rubber apron on the back side of the blade guard. There are, however, two cases where all water will not be contained. One is when the motor is tilted to cut tiles at an angle; in this case, some water will be sprayed to the left of the machine. Also, if cutting very large tiles that extend beyond the right extension tray, some water will run across the top of the tile and drip on the right side of the machine; you can stop most of this, while cutting, by skimming your hand on that tile to scoop the water back into a tray.3. This saw does plunge cuts; e.g., for electrical outlets or registers. Without this feature, about the only way to cut a square in the middle of a large tile was to use a portable (e.g., 4.5") wet saw. With this DeWalt, loosen the plunge lock, align the tile under the blade, and lower the blade as it cuts. Do this four times, once per side of the square/rectangle, on each side of the tile, and you've got a clean hole.4. Powerful direct drive motor. It is loud, but it's also a work-horse. DeWalt made it 15 amps, probably so it can be plugged into virtually any 110v outlet without blowing a breaker. Direct drive means there are no gears to wear out, which is why my previous wet saw died.5. Huge capacity for a saw in this price range and weight. 24 inch rip and 18 inch on the diagonal. You may not need that much on every job, but it's great to not be limited by the tool. Impressive to be able to cut 24 inch square slate. Most amazing thing is cutting a 3.5" thick concrete paver in one pass. I've cut slate pieces so heavy, I could hardly lift them onto the table. I've also ripped a 36 inch long, inch and a half thick, slate paver, by setting one end on top of the table stop and cutting half the paver's length, then flipping the slate end over end to complete the cut. There is 13" between the blade and the motor support, so you can cut up to 13" from the side of a tile.6. The motor easily tilts and locks at 45 or 22.5 (degrees), so cuts are possible without using an accessory cart block. These are the only angles mentioned by DeWalt, because the table has slots to receive the blades for these angles. However, you can actually cut any angle (e.g., on half-inch thick material) between 0 and 45 degrees if you lift the blade and tile above the table so the blade misses those slots.7. The rolling table has thick rubber bonded to the top, to prevent slipping tiles. A great innovation. The table can be put onto the saw assembly, or removed, quickly and easily. The table has a slide-lock to keep it from coming off the saw and can be "locked" into two other positions, for transporting on the saw assembly.8. Saw comes with a reversible 45 degree miter which clamps to the table and works well.9. The excellent water pump is rated at 170 gallons per hour, which is more than adequate. Search on "little giant 518200" via Amazon or Google [Froogle, actually], for more details. The DW24001 tool stand is designed specifically for this tool. The tub bottom has four molded sections that fit into the stand top. Since I'm tall and wanted the wet saw higher than the DW24001 allows, I designed my own stand. The tool has adjustable rollers to align the table for sliding smoothness and squareness to the blade. My tool needed no adjustments. As with any wet saw, cleaning is no fun. I put all the parts on the grass and use a hose at low water pressure to rinse off the various parts, being careful to keep water out of the motor. Also run water backward through the water pump to clean out the insides. The box this thing comes in is huge. It's very well packed and protected, and there was zero delivery damage to the tool. One reviewer called this tool a "game changer" in the wet saw business. I agree. Having done tile work for years using mostly MK brand tile saws, when this saw came on the market, its benefits were obvious. Here's an analogy. 5Love this saw !!!
By Building contractor
Just finished tiling a bath, the floor, half way up the wall and the whole shower,Love this Saw !!!, light, powerful, easy to move, easy to set up and use, no spills or spray mess.Don't waste 7 or 8 hundred bucks on the same old antique dinosaur saw that can't do anything but straight cut, sprays the whole room with dirty water and are as easy to move around as an engine block !!!There's no comparison, it's like day and night . . .the competition better wake up.

5Well-built saw performs flawlessly, makes precise cuts
By Steven Rehrauer
I'm a home-owner DIYer, not a professional. So, this saw is probably extreme overkill for me. But, I was unsure how quickly I could complete a tiling job in my spare time; didn't want daily rental prices to mount; and have long felt that the pain of buying good tools is felt once, versus the pain of using cheaper bad tools.Setup of the saw was fairly easy. There aren't many parts to assemble, and they fit together smoothly. This is a well-built, sturdy saw so small women may want some help in lifting and seating the saw motor onto the saw base, but most adults will find it easy enough. While the folding stand looked a little shaky, once the saw's plastic tub was seated atop the stand, and the assembled saw placed in the tub, it was solid. Albeit, if you need to move the table, there's no rollers (probably a good thing, contributing to a secure footing) so you'll essentially need to take the saw off the stand first, or lift the saw enough to be able to pull/push the stand but not so much that the tub comes off the stand and the stand folds.I wondered how well the pump -- a Little Giant pond pump, I believe -- that circulates water from the saw's tub to the blade, would perform. Quite well. No sputtering, and it never once clogged despite water that grew pretty murky from tile dust. The saw's sliding table glides very smoothly on rollers, and the rubber surface gripped tiles securely as I pushed the tile into the blade.I used the saw's included DeWalt diamond blade to cut 12x12", 3/8" thick limestone tiles. I learned quickly that if I tried to push a tile too fast through the blade, the blade would wander just a bit. But if I allowed the blade to cut at a steady pace, and not push it hard, then I got crisp, extremely clean and straight edges.I found that the splash guard at the rear of the saw did a reasonable but not perfect job in stopping spray from the back end of the saw during cuts. I would recommend against trying to use the saw in the room you're actually tiling, if at all possible. But I also don't want to make it sound like this is a messy tool to use. It's really not; the splash guard stops probably 90% of the spray off the spinning blade, so it seems a manageable issue to me.Since I'm a DIYer and parked the saw in one spot in my garage for the duration of its use, I can't speak to how convenient it would be to pack up the saw and its table between home and job sites. It's not a small nor light tool, but it does perform very well.

5Fantastic television: phenomenal picture, features galore, good looks, but PRICEY!
By J. Steven
This television replaced a Sony KDL-40S2000 I had purchased. During my 30-day return policy I realized if I were to invest (ha!) in a LCD television I should get one with a full 1080 resolution. I returned the KDL-40S2000 and got this model.Out of the box the television is gorgeous, however, a bit wider and thicker than my previous Bravia. Not a problem for me, but check the measurements before you buy.Picture quality is phenomenal; previous to this set I've always been a tube/CRT guy due to their better picture quality when compared to plasmas and LCDs. I think the technology has finally caught up with CRT quality with this TV. Great (but not perfect) black levels and more detail than you really need in a 40" television. I will say there is a difference between a 720p panel and 1080p panel in my tests. Motion on high definition sources is also very good. The picture quality on standard definition sources could be better, but I am watching less and less standard definition every day.I was surprised by the amount of tweaks and features present on this television. A few notable features include: A full pixel mode which takes your high definition source and displays it pixel for pixel on your set, something I've never seen on a HDTV before. This feature does wonders for sources outputting a 1080 signal, including my modded Xbox which outputs the interface and DVD signals in 1080i. You can literally walk up to the TV and see the pixels 1:1 just like a computer monitor. This full pixel mode does have a caveat, some HD broadcasts have some extra pixels on the side or top of the frame that appear in this mode, but it's a fine trade off for the 1:1 resolution. The extra pixels are the result of the broadcaster and not the TV.The other valuable feature is the ability to adjust the wide viewing mode when viewing any sort of signal including high definition. My previous HDTV was locked into "Wide/Full" mode when watching 1080i content. The KDL-40XBR2 lets you choose which viewing mode when watching high-definition content. I use this feature when I watch inside the NFL on HBO-HD. They broadcast the program using a 1080i signal, but the show is actually standard definition displayed in a 4:3 frame (when is HBO gonna start shooting this show in HD?). The zoom mode allows me to zoom the picture and watch the program using the whole screen. I wouldn't have had this option with my previous HD sets.Because I don't like artificial sharpness or edge creation I always turn the sharpness down very low or off on my televisions. Most TVs look ideal when the sharpness is set low so no artificial edges are created. Don't do this on the KDL-40XBR2 because Sony has added some additional control with the sharpness adjustment. When I set the sharpness very low (Min - 10) I noticed the picture became very blurry, especially with text. At first I thought I had gotten a lemon, but later realized this is a feature. When the sharpness is low the TV seems to reverse the sharpness effect causing the picture to soften. Once I bumped the sharpness up to 35 the picture looked amazing with no artificial edges or blurriness. This functionality is different than most sets, but a perfect example of the level of adjustment the KDL-40XBR2 offers.Great looks, picture quality and enough tweaks to occupy hours fine-tuning the picture. This isn't a great set for someone who wants to take it out of the box and expect a great picture, but instead someone who is used to tweaking their A/V equipment to their preferences. Highly recommended if you've got the cash.

1Manufacturing defects affecting Sept '06 through present sets
By Randy Nelson
Sony's XBR line of LCD displays are near or at the top of the most amazing on the market in terms of picture quality, but anyone considering a purchase of an XBR2/3 model display should be aware that there is a significant manufacturing defect with displays produced post-August of 2006 that results in extremely splotchy or "cloudy" backlighting. During playback of dark content, clouds of bright spots can be seen across the display. Sony has yet to officially acknowledge this latest stumble in their production quality control, but do a search for "XBR clouding" and you will find plenty of discussion about this very real problem.I have personally owned this display and the defect was significant enough to warrant a return. I opted not to get a replacement knowing that so many of these displays in the channel are affected. When (hopefully not "if") Sony is able to remedy the production problem and get non-defective sets to retail, I would easily rate it a five-star product and re-purchase one for my home theater.

5AMAZING TV...But....Clouding Issues are a problem!
By Woots
I have owned a 46xbr3 for over a month now. I would 1st like to say that the image of this TV is awesome. The menu options you have to tweak the look of the image is very very detailed. It helps if you run component and HDMI signals and need to have different tweaked settings to optimize look and reduce pixelization. 1080p with your playstation 3, blu ray or hd dvd players. The tv does not run 1080p component, only hdmi and vga, so your xbox 360 will have to run in 1080i (still looks great). The xbox 360 does run 1080p through vga input on this tv but xbox360 makes the screen look washed out.Clouding Issue:There is however a manufacturing defect that is not officially published by sony and no recall is yet in effect. The Sony LCD flatpanels XBR2/XBR3 40"/46"/52" screens have a greater then 50% chance to have a defect nicknamed "clouding". I am one of those unlucky buyers. What "clouding" basically is, is white puffy looking background lighting, when screen is black. This is not to be confused with non uniform lighting often seen in PC lcd panels; This is much worse and much brighter and heavily blotchy. For most people with this problem (including myself) you can only see this clouding during times when the screen goes black. (credits at the end of the movies, transitions between commercials to tv shows, dark parts scenes in movies and shows.) During these dark scenes they stand out like a sore thumb and make viewing distracting; due to the fact they are very bright and whitish. My experience is the longer the TV stays turned on the brighter these clouds get. When you 1st turn on the Tv they are very faint. They also have an odd habit of shifting around the panel very slowly over the course of weeks. (as strange as this may sound) I have found the clouding does not discolor or overbrighten the screen when the TV has full colorful images on it. This is why this problem is tolerable and I did not demand my money back, its still not acceptable though. I have read a few users say their clouding is so bad it effects the colors and makes them washed out. Thankfully I have not seen that. Please do not take my word for any of this I encourage you to be a critical thinker and go out on google and seek this "sony lcd clouding" issue. I am doing my part for the small community of us who are stuck with this sad problem overshadowing what is otherwise an absolutely great HDTV.In closing this TV is beautiful looking but when you spend this much money you don't want things like this bringing down your morale over the product. If you buy this TV you could be one of the lucky buyers and get an untainted screen and most stores give you a 30 day return policy. I have also heard (not confirmed) that the newest manufactured models have fixed this issue. I gave the product 5 stars despite the flaw, because even with this flaw I love this TV.Best of luck with your HDTV purchases. Hope this helps.

5Excellent Product
By Rosanne Font
I'm very happy with this product; though not using it as a printer stand at all. I bought it to use it as a TV stand with DVD player inserted below & it works very well. The wood is solid with finished edges, not particle board. It's sturdy and functional as well as a beautiful piece of furniture.

Rolodex 82437 Wood Tones Printer Stand, 21W X 18D, Mahogany this is the best printer stand/monitor stand I have ever purchased. It's beautiful, sturdy and has compartments enough for all of my different paper needs (plain, labels, letterhead and photo). I love it!

5WOW! Gorgeous! And sturdy, as well!
By Joan Shaffer
This printer stand is well constructed, looks good, and is designed for optimal usefulness. When it's filled with paper, it still looks neat, tidy, and the finish gives a rich appearance. I've had similar printer stands by other manufacturers, which are not this sturdy, and the openings are slightly too narrow for regular paper. And what a bargain in price!!!! I cannot praise this purchase too highly -- and I'm VERY particular!

This robe is everything that I was looking for - perfect for the summer around the pool or hot tub. My only reservation is I bought it for a man and I don't particularly like the satin ribbon sewn into the collar...Other than that I especially like the color - beige. I do want one for myself!

5Fabulous Bathrobe
By Artemis
The product description is accurate.I bought it as a Christmas gift for my 80+ father for use in Tucson, Arizona for his walk between his retirement unit and the pool. He was delighted. It's an excellent quality alternative to your heavy-weight "plush" bath robe, yet being cotton will absorb random drips.I may "need" one myself.

1terrible terrible terrible
By Diana Aria
I have two of these from other companies. This is a piece of crap. The construction is chinzy, THe hardware does not go with the base and they did n't send enough screws. There were only tabs for 10 pages not 20.The little gray rubber things prevented the files from sitting properly.what a piece of crap. oh and the instructions were outdated and for a different style.almost 100 dollars for this - it's a throw away.

This sytem is a little pricier than some of the competitors but it's a good value for the money considering it's pretty heavy-duty. We use this daily in office that is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Good deal!

Product Description

The Norton 4000-grit waterstone creates an abrasive slurry for effective sharpening, with 4000 grit for maintaining and refining steel cutting edges; this 1 x 8 x 3 inch (H x W x D) stone, suitable for bench use, cleans up easily with water, and comes encased in a blue plastic hinged box. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The box protects the waterstone and provides a reservoir to keep it moist. The removable box lid, with no-slip rubber feet, acts as a sharpening station to hold the waterstone in place during bench use.

This synthetic waterstone is created by grading abrasive material to a consistent particle size and blending it with bonding agents. It is then molded and surface-finished. Waterstones have a finer grit and softer bond than oilstones, and use water as the lubricant to develop a slurry, a thin paste of abrasive grains and water that removes metal with less pressure than an oilstone requires. Cleanup is easier than with oil as lubricant. This stone conforms to the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) for waterstones.

Sharpening stones, or whetstones, are abrasive surfaces used to sharpen and hone the edges of steel cutting implements such as chisels, knives, scissors, hand scrapers, and plane blades. Sharpening is the process of creating or re-establishing a cutting edge by grinding away portions of the metal to adjust the angle of the edge and reform the shape. Honing removes small imperfections. Stones can be flat, for working flat edges, or shaped, for edges that are more complex. Sharpening stones are made of natural or synthetic materials that range from softer to harder, and are categorized by the size of their abrasive particles, known as grit. A stone with a coarser grit is used when more metal needs to be removed (e.g., when sharpening a nicked or very dull blade); the stone with the finest grit produces the sharpest edge. Where numbers are assigned to specify grit, they range from coarser grit (low) to finer grit (high). Some sharpening stones are designed for use with a lubricating liquid, some can be used dry, and others can be used either wet or dry. When used with lubricating liquid, a sharpening stone can be called a waterstone or an oilstone, based on the lubricant required.

Norton Abrasives manufactures sanding, grinding, and polishing abrasives, and has been located in the United States since 1885. Norton, now a brand of Saint-Gobain, meets ISO 9000 and 14001 certification for quality and environmental management standards.

5Exactly what I needed
By W. Foreman
My primary purpose for getting this waterstone is to keep my woodworking chisels and planes sharp, but I am also able to use this to sharpen my kitchen knives, various pocket knives we have around the house and my straight razor that I shave with.A quick internet search will yield you tons of how to articles and videos on how to use waterstones to keep your knives sharp. This was my first waterstone and I have been pleased with the results so far. The box is great for storing the stone and the rubber feet on the bottom help keep the stone from moving around during use. As part of my set of various grit stones, this makes a great addition!

5Norton Waterstone 4000 grit
By Kenneth Liebich
I have three of the Norton Waterstones for my knives, and they all work great. These stones provide plenty of surface area to work with, and the case (blue hinged plastic box) works as a perfect base for setting the stone on. The case has rubber feet on the corners to keep everything from sliding all over while sharpening.I have sharpened many knives and the Norton waterstones show little wear and do a great job at getting an edge. Since I have three of these stones, two are combination stones....with two grit's on opposing sides...it makes it easy to flatten the stones by rubbing the highest grit stone against the lowest grit stone under running water.

1design is o.k., leather is fine, but wheels have disintegrated within 6 months
By N. T. Long
I purchased this case because my back was no longer enjoying lugging a large laptop computer, plus file folders, books and other items to and from court and between two offices. The first thing I discovered was that there was not a great deal of room inside considering the size on the outside. If one uses the computer protection insert there is almost no room for much else. The handle by which one pulls or pushes the case is quite short and it is slightly too short for me, at 5' 10". The big problem is that the wheels, wheel bearings, axles etc. are falling apart after only six months moderate if daily use in an American city. I was temporarily able to fix one of the wheels with Goop to get it back onto the sleeve which turns around an axle but the wheel itself is deeply scored and looks as though it is going to break up very soon.

5If you want to product your computer, this is the bag for you!
By AnthroLady
I just ordered another D957-4 Solo Rolling Laptop Case for my husband. Why? (This is a true testimonial). This week he was taking out the trash and left his computer behind his car. He forgot about the computer bag and BACKED HIS CAR UP OVER IT--laptop and all. Although the bag looks pretty much trashed (with torn leather and slightly misshapen), his MacPro computer, cord, and clickers all survived inside apparently (so far) unscathed. He was totally dejected because, as he says, he loved that bag--just the right size (not too big and unwieldy) and not too small. Space for books, pens, computer, PDA, IPod. You name it. And, with wheels that make it easier on his bum shoulder. However, I just said thank heavens he had that particular SOLO bag--strong enough to support even a 1.4 ton VW Golf!

3Good product, but a little too red
By P. Triandafillou
This kit meets Tiffen's usual high standard of quality. I purchased it because the kit was priced slightly lower than the enhancing filter alone.I was primarily interested in the enhancing filter. It produces an interesting result, and as advertised, it enhances reds and earth tones without overtly affecting other colors. However, I found the enhancement a bit too red. I was shooting scenes in Utah, and what my eye saw was somewhere in between what my camera recorded in auto white balance without the filter and with the filter.I can adjust the white balance in the field or post process the images later, but I had hoped that the enhancing filter would hit a real sweet spot and save myself some work. That's asking a lot, so I'm not disappointed. I'll carry and use the filter, but it's unlikely to be a "go to" filter like my circular poloarizer or graduated neutral density filters. The softening filter in the kit does a nice job with portraits, and the polarizer is good. The kit was worth the price.

5Heavy duty, kind of expensive
By Christine
I was surprised at how much these things cost, but they last forever. We had the same ones for 10 years and decided to buy new ones just to look nice. They can fit a lot and are heavy so they don't tip over. The only negative is that you have to buy the inserts separately.

5I Wish I Had Bought This 30 Years Ago
By R Rasmussen
I first saw this product (portable scaffold) earlier this year when we had some extensive wall and ceiling repair done prior to my painting a room. The man doing the wall/ceiling work just set his scaffold up, got his mud and smoothing knives ready and went to work. Didn't so much as use a ladder. Very, very efficient. No going up and down ladders.Over the years, in doing interior painting jobs in the house, I have always used a ladder (9 ft. ceilings) -- going cheap. After seeing the wall guy use the scaffold, I said, "Never again". Get the right tools for the job -- get a scaffold and stop this silly ladder thing. I ordered the Werner portable scaffold a week after the wall refinishing was done, ready for painting. The scaffold is quite ingenious in its design. It is absolutely safer and more stable than most ladders I've seen, though don't work from the top level of the scaffold. After finishing a wall or some windows, I unlock the wheels and roll it to the next work-point, relock the wheels and continue with the work. The scaffold is easy to carry (in sections) and stores compactly. Simply: I wish I had bought this scaffold 30 years ago! My married kids will now be getting portable scaffolds this Christmas. An added plus: Amazon's price was much lower than the national big-box hardware stores here, sufficiently lower that I bought a "Amazon Prime" membership to quickly ship the scaffold, and get a year of Prime 2-day shipping service. I have been using Prime in every purchase since. Happy camper.

4Saves time on ceilings, painting, drywall; nice work cart
By Patrick Burke
This portable scaffold really saves time on projects. Instead of climbing up and down the ladder, you can simply roll on to the next area with the handy well built casters. It is narrow enough to roll through hallways, but has enough space for a 6'2", 230lb guy to stand on comfortably. It may not hold up to the wear and tear of everyday use of a contractor, but for the DIY crowd, this is nice addition to the toolset. Saw it for less than 100 at the HD.I bought from amazon, shipped 2 days with prime. Box was beat up, but there was not a scratch on the blue frame. ( It didn't stay clean too long, but it has already been worth double the cost in time savings.)

5Little old lady appreciates the leg up!
By Little Old Lady
I'm insulating my house with loosefill rockwool and this scaffold is proving to be very very handy. Sometimes I stand on it and others it's rolling along next to the ladder keeping the bag of rockwool and tools within easy reach. It has been in constant use since recieving it (extremely easy to set up) but it'll be nice to store since it takes up very little room for its size. I was concerned about a comment that the wheels bent but these are very sturdy pins that took some force to push into the legs, so it's hard to envision that happening on this one. In fact, I'm thinking of buying a second one and linking them for some upper wall work.
