Goodwin I did a great deal of research into travel guitars, this one has excellent qualities and features at a reasonable price. I was originally looking at the Martin Backpacker but found that it was a bit on the expensive side and did not include the extras that the Washburn Rover came with.Excellent fit and finish. The machines are of decent quality and work well. The full size fretboard is of good quality. The sound is very good. Anyone thinking that this will take the place of their regular acoustic should note that it is a practice/travel guitar and does not "project" sound as fully as a full sized acoustic. The case is an excellent bonus and works well with the provided backpack straps. I was delighted that it came with a strap, picks, an extra bridge w/shims, a truss rod wrench, and a DVD. The DVD is geared toward the novice but includes a neat little program that will allow you to use your computer/laptop as a tuner. When the guitar arrives I would recommend that you: open the case and let it air out for a week or two (strong lacquer smell), and take it to shop that specializes in acoustic instruments and have the action set up (intonation and string height). Also note: The full size neck tends to make the guitar top heavy, not a problem when used with a strap. Also, you may want to have the shop attach a strap peg on the back of the neck where the neck attaches to the body. All in all...a great instrument for the money.Cheers! 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. On the go? The perfect little guitar for the traveling musician. By Maverick Brandless After making a $40 mistake with some other "travel" guitar I decided to invest more into something I plan to keep for the long run. That's when I came across this beauty. I didn't know much about the brand name when I purchased it but later found that Washburn has been in the business since 1883.When the guitar arrived I was supprised to find that it came with it's own semi-hard nylond case with velvet liner. The srings were prestrung and trimmed propperly. The fretboard was flawless and the body was a work of art. The finish was matt, but it didn't take away from it's quiet dignety when it's not played, even if it's a mini guitar. It needed some tuning so I handed it over to a friend who knew how to tune harmonically and he couldn't stop playing it when he got it the way it should be. It comes with a gig strap, backpack straps for the case, 3 pics, alan key for the neck adjustment, instructional CD, and an extra parts for the bridge. The money I payed for this instrument goes a long way and I'm very happy with it. I can't say enough good things about this guitar. So let's nit pic a little bit. The tuning keys are open geared and the gig srap wraps around the head and there's a strap stud on the butt-end of the guitar. The obvious size makes it a little difficult to possition properly on the body unless your a child, then this would be a perfect fit. Let's remember, this is a travel guitar. This hardly takes away from a perfect traveling companion. If you want a cost effective traveler, this is it. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great travel guitar By Mary107 Picked this up to take along when we travel. Arrived quickly and was just as advertised. There was an odor coming from the straps so I just removed them and put outside. I've left the case open to help eliminate the odor they left behind. The guitar arrived with D'Addario strings that needed to be tuned up, expected. Like with any new strings you need to tune frequently until they're done stretching. The case is a nice size. The sound is louder than expected. The color is more of a teal than a royal but that okay. Will have a luthier put a peg on the base of the neck so that I can attach a better strap and have him do the fine tuning of the truss rod and any fret work if needed. Petko I purchased this guitar to keep my fingers in shape while travelling on business. For that purpose it is very effective. I find myself playing for hours in my hotel room and have even written some song outlines with this guitar. The Good: It's light and compact. The neck has a nice feel and is easy to play (with the strap). The tone is "okay" for a travel guitar, (it's thin but what do you expect out of a guitar this size). The guitar overall seems sturdy. The Bad: It's a little bit long to fit right in the overhead bins on an airplane. It will fit length-wise but then roller bags no long fit properly. This is a minor gripe as the crew on all my flights have helped me find available space for it either on top of other bags or behind the last row of seats. The intonation isn't great and overall it goes out of tune quite quickly while playing. Higher quality tuners would have been nice.Summary: Great travel guitar for the money. It's better than those neck only kits to practice on as it actually plays notes, but is definitely not a guitar "replacement". It's fine for a few nights away from home to keep the fingers in shape. 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. The perfect travel guitar. By Skiff Daddy I purchased a Washburn RO10TR in anticipation of a trip to Italy and France where I was going to be meeting up with some of the other guys in my blues band. I wanted a travel guitar and case that wouldn't be a hassle to carry through airports and would fit easily into the overhead bins on my flights. But most of all, I wanted a guitar that was playable without a lot of set-up and that sounded good.Just as long as you don't expect the kind of sound you get out of your big old dreadnought. It has a small sound box so it has a tenor ring to it.This little baby filled all my needs...and is kind of cute--in the way you might think of your own sister...on top of it all.One of my band mates had a Martin travel guitar that cost twice as much. I thought the Washburn held its own in every respect. And I got a lot of comments on the case as well...as in, "It looks like the case alone should cost what you paid for the whole set-up. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Super nice. By RazzSpew10 Picked up some Blue Steel lite stings and some brass abalone pins to enhance tone. Also was the last to pick it up for $118.50 shipped to my door. If you like a parlor guitar, this might be for you. The case is kick ass too, easily a $50 value.Update: After putting on the brass pins and adding a snark tuner, along with putting on new strings, this guitar rocks. Putting the brass pins keeps it from being too top heavy and helps to improve tone. This is my go-to guitar. Sounds good and has great intonation. The only fore-seeable upgrade would be to get closed geared tunners but the open geared work fine and hold tunning. I have a washburn D-30 and love this just as much for 1/3 the cost. By Phyllis Rhodes I recently purchased this printer in an effort to free up more space in my home office. I replaced my laser printer, scanner and fax with this single compact unit and couldn't be happier. As others have mentioned, the duplex printing feature is a MAJOR plus in my opinion - a feature that they've seemed to include as a "freebie" and adds major points over competitors. The quick start guide was really simple and I was up and running in a matter of minutes.A super quiet machine when not in use (thanks to the Energy Saving feature), I've used the printing features and the results are timely, crisp, clean pages with seemingly excellent paper handling (no jams so far). It's got many more print options (2 on 1 page, 4 on 2 pages which is really 4 on 1 with the duplex option) and a ton of other cool features and capabilities that aren't listed in the product description. I have sent and received faxes without a problem. Copying is just like using the larger machines: just lift the cover or use the document feeder to copy originals. I haven't scanned anything yet, so I can't comment on that particular functionality, but the manual mentions scanning to PDF which is what I really need and like.Size is truly relative - It is a bit larger (height and width) than my old laser printer (a Samsung); but does 4 times more work and its footprint is definitely smaller than the three units I replaced! For less than $200 with free shipping, it's solved my space problems and exceeded my expectations regarding functionality and quality. A great deal, imo. I highly recommend!! 75 of 78 people found the following review helpful. Wow, this is the way to go. By bayareakirk Awesome:1. Very quiet.2. Goes in to hibernate quickly to save energy and bursts back to life instantly when needed.3. Great print quality.4. Does it all (except for color)including fax, copy, scan, and duplex printing.5. Duplex printing saves a lot of resources (paper and money).6. Most of the settings and buttons are user friendly. Not so awesome:1. The manual that comes with it is nice and easy to read and use, but skips too many "advanced features". For advanced features you must look at the online .pdf guides.2. Even with the advanced guide, it is not immediately obvious to me how to set up the machine so it will screen calls as phone or fax. It wants to answer all calls as a fax machine. I need to experiment more with the available (but confusing) settings that should fix this. I like having a do it all printer but also realized I no longer need or want color. Here's why:1. Printing photos at home is not what the marketing would like us to believe. Sending photos to Kodak or Shutterfly (or any online photo printer) is cheaper, of better quality, and of more archival quality than printing at home. It also offers more choices of print size and paper quality and so forth. It's just not quite as fast. Email the photos in and have them in a few days or a week at most.2. Color inkjet printers do not work well long enough. They frustrate me as contributing too greatly to our throw away society. It is cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy ink, print heads and other needed repairs that come up after a year or two of use. This Canon is great and it is unreal that it lists at such a low price for the quality and functions you get. 59 of 62 people found the following review helpful. Nice Machine - Happy So Far By J. Kim I bought this printer after I found that 1) fewer and fewer places carry toner for my Samsung SF-555P Multi-function printer and 2) I really need duplex printing. This Canon machine is one of the few, if not only, product out there right now with dupex *and* multifunction built into a single monochrome laser unit. This is a brand new model as of Novermber 2006. I had bought and returned a HP Laserjet 3055 multi-function unit, after I found that it does not have duplex built-in. I almost bought a dupex laser printer from brother, HL-5250DN, for about the same amount of money (~$200).This Canon unit has energy saver feature so it is very quiet when not in use. I liked the printer driver. It is easy to use and uses the same type of user interface as the one found in my Canon i860 ink printer. And, yes, it has duplex printing!!!!Since I have only had the printer for a week, I have not used it extensively but evrything seems to work well. Its footprint is bigger than my old samsung unit but still relatively small, despite it has a cover and an automatic feeder for copying. I like how it does not have a built-in phone; I can always hook up a cheap phone if I wanted to. A built-in phone would make the unit less pleasing to the eye. It is a very pretty machine (boy, am I a geek). I like how I can now pull up the cover, set down a store receipt and copy with a push of a single button. The only downside is that once the starter toner is all used up, a regular replacement toner is good for 2000 pages, as opposed to 3000 pages, which is what other manufacturers typically rate their replacement toners for. But I think even with a 3000 page toner, I replaced toners once every other year so this shouldn't be too big a deal.I am all set for the next year's tax filing. Bring it on! Customer ReviewsMost helpful customer reviews 135 of 137 people found the following review helpful. Excellent By Lisa We have a young, 15 lb. Doxie/Jackie mix who has a LOT of energy. We bought this pen primarily so we could use it as a barrier between rooms, and it works great for that. We use one of the end sections as a "door" for us (and him) that we set against the wall when we want to close off the room; we stretch three of the adjoining sections in short "V"s for the length of the room opening; and then we "fold" the remaining partitions together and set them against the opposite wall. It is completely free standing this way, which means it doesn't rub against the walls (unless our dog jumps against it, which he has been known to do--but it doesn't fall over when does this because of how it's propped against the wall, and that's important). We've also used it as a pen, and it worked great for that too. We wondered if our little guy would be able to knock it over when it was in its pen shape, but if he tried, it didn't come down. We left him in it while we ran errands for a couple of hours, and when we came back, it was exactly as we'd left it. He's pretty well potty trained at this point, but we also wondered if we left him in the pen (rather than his kennel) while we were gone if he'd break protocol and do his business in there since he has a lot more room in the pen than he does in his kennel. But he didn't make any messes at all; so I would recommend it for dogs who are at or near the end of their potty training but still need to be confined while their owners are gone for a short period of time. A final word (no, really, I swear): We really like the black coating. Some friends of ours have a gold pen they offered to loan us, but we don't like the way the gold one looks. The black is more "stylish" (which, let's face it, does matter to some of us), and if the pen winds up rubbing against a wall, the black rubs off a little bit (which is quickly and easily cleaned off) but doesn't harm the wall. (Our friends' gold pen rubbed against one of their walls and left scratches on it.) 75 of 76 people found the following review helpful. Midwest Exercise Pen Keeps Pets Safely Contained By Bryan Carey The Midwest Exercise Pen is a helpful device for pet containment and it has come in very handy for my household. This exercise pen offers a safe refuge for pets and it is metal in construction, adding extra strength and durability. After my previous plastic pen collapsed one day and broke into pieces, I decided to go for something more durable and my search led me to the Midwest Exercise Pen.The Midwest Exercise Pen provides about sixteen square feet of space and while this isn't much, it does come in handy for a small to medium size pet. This area can be expanded slightly by attaching the open ends of this pen to the opening of a dog crate. I have a metal dog crate and this combination seems to work very well. Not only does it expand the total square footage, but many dogs also appreciate the attached crate because they can crawl inside it when they like, similar to what they do in a doghouse. Besides the play area, the walls of the pen are tall enough to keep pets contained. Panels are sold in varying heights that range up to forty- eight inches. From my experience, I have found that most dogs will stay inside the panels without any need for supervision. Many dogs- even smaller breeds- could easily jump these walls but they tend to stay confined without any problem.I like the Midwest Exercise Pen but I have noticed a few potential problems that should be pointed out to any potential buyers. First, I don't like that there are only four snaps included. These snaps are intended to attach the open ends together and to prevent the exercise pen from being moved around and losing its intended shape. However, the snaps are not very secure and since you need two of them to close the open- ended panels, you will have only two left, and this means the pen will not be as stable as some pet owners would prefer.Another area of concern with the Midwest Exercise Pen is the lightweight construction. As I have said, the pen is made from metal but the metal spokes are not very thick. This results in an exercise pen that is very lightweight and thus is not suitable for a larger, more active breed of dog. A large or medium size dog with lots of energy could easily knock this pen over, with the right effort. The ground stakes help to prevent this problem, but if the pen is used indoors or in a garage or basement, you obviously cannot use the ground stakes and you will have to tolerate a little bit of sliding around. The Midwest Exercise Pen is a very good exercise pen for small to medium size dogs, rabbits, and other pets and I am glad I made the purchase. It isn't perfect and it isn't suitable for every type of dog, due to its limited weight and stability. But this is still a very good exercise pen that lets pets enjoy a little freedom while also keeping them under control. 57 of 61 people found the following review helpful. Perfect for my French bulldog.. By Happy Mom of 4 We love this pen. It is large enough for the puppy and for an adult or child to sit in and play with the dog. When opened up it spans a very large entry to the great room in our home giving us the ability to confine her to an area of the house. It is strong and sturdy and although she is a puppy I can imagine her using it even as a 30lb adult dog. For larger dogs, I definitly would consider buying the taller 30" or more. This pen is extremely well priced and after shopping around at local pet stores this one was positively the best deal ever. See all 610 customer reviews...Latest Price: See on Amazon.com! Auger This thing takes a likin and keeps on tickin. I'm a college student and wanted to be able to edit pictures on-the-go instead of confined into my room, but still maintain speed, reliability, and size. I use it almost exclusively for my Aperture photo library, and I must say it its quite fast. I've dropped it a few times and throw it in my computer backpack with my MacBook Pro and its with throughout the day around my campus.I got it because of the sturdiness and the fact that's its one of the few portable, but powered FW800 drives, allowing fast transfers with large files, as well as daisychaining other devices to it without slowdown in speed; I have confirmed this through my own informal testing with 100gb transfers. I love that there is no AC adapter but its just as fast as most external powered drives, except maybe my Lacie RAID drive at home. With Photoshop and Aperture:If you've ever gone into the Photoshop settings, you'll notice it recommends to have a scratch disk separate from the disk Photoshop is on. Also, most pros know to have even the pictures on a separate disk for optimal speed. Aperture and Photoshop go must faster with this disk hooked up, since the built in drive isn't bouncing around between Photoshop, system, and picture files. Also, since Aperture views and manipulates a lot of photos at once, I've notices a serious speed advantage when using FW400, FW800, and USP in my own testing with this drive.Triple Interface:The FW800 is fantastic. I hook it to my big external raid drive at home. You can actually daisychain another device to it, either a FW400 or FW800, depending on the port you use. The other device can be powered too. So you don't necessarily need a second FW800 like on bigger hard drives to do daisychaining.I've hooked my Rugged HD directly to my notebook, with a big hard drive hooked to that, with my scanner and printer hooked to the big hard drive. Meaning, I have 4 devices hooked to my itty bitty HD without loss of speed: yup, while printing, I still got transfer speeds of almost 60mb per second. This also means I don't need to use a hub.Speed Testing:This depends for every HD; 1GB of little files transfers faster than one 1GB file. But I get between 35mb and 60mb per second on 100gb transfers. My old Firelite USG got about 12-15mb per/s, and a more modern cheap Western digital got 20-25. There is a difference between all three interfaces. My Lacie RAID gets up to 80mb/sec.Overall:Yes it's a little pricey, but the thing is fast and durable. Plus, the much more fragile G-Techs, the only other big name FW800 portable drives, are even more money. If you need something that goes with you on the go quite frequently and is fast, this is the drive for you. And if your notebook had FW800, don't skip out on spending the extra money on this one. The HD is a little bigger than most portable HD, but it has more airspace inside to protect the disk from impact. To most people, the size difference isn't that noticeable.Oh yes, and the rubber ring stays on secure, but is pretty easy to take off, and has screws going around so you can probably put a bigger drive into it in the future. 34 of 34 people found the following review helpful. Great, compact drive. Very fast. By Jared Vorkavich I love this drive (as much as one can love a hard drive)! It's even smaller than it looks and extremely light-weight. I use the FireWire 800 connection primarily with my PowerBook for photo editing and it is incredibly fast. I've always been impressed with LaCie's design, engineering and reliability. If I had to give any negative comment, it's that there's no light to indicate it's actually on or doing something, but since my computer sees it instantly and I can feel a slight vibration if I touch it, I always know it's working. 28 of 28 people found the following review helpful. My fourth LaCie rugged series drive By Living in the Redwoods I have used three earlier versions of this rugged HD for backup for years without a single failure. I still use a 10GB "Pocket drive" for one mac at home. Granted, I keep my new back up drive unplugged most of the time to mimimize mechanical wear and tear. The rubber bumper and high shock resistance of the internal 3.5" drives have prevented any data loss when the La Cie HD gets pushed around in my tote bags or brief case. They are whisper quiet when they are in use. The only thing I miss on the current 160GB model is a power on-activity LED. On the older rugged drives the green LED would flash yellow when data was being transferred or the drive was being unmounted by my Macs so I could tell when NOT to unplug the USB or firewire cable. Now I just wait 10-15 seconds after My Mac unmounts the 160GB drive and then unplug the cable. Summary: more expensive than other portable drives but very reliable & durable. It started out wonderful, but after a short time, the material traveled into the other squares. This left the sections directly under where we sleep without any stuffing, and all around us padded nicely with the comfy gel insides. We've tried throwing it in the dryer on the air setting with tennis balls to "punch" it around, but it hasn't really helped. I wouldn't have purchased this mattress pad if I had known about these results. I think the next time we purchase something like this, we'll try a memory foam mattress pad, of which we've heard much better reviews. 21 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Makes sleeping very nice By River Bend I bought a queen size Beyong Down gel fiber mattress pad and I must say, the first night I got into bed, it was a decided difference from sleeping just on a regular mattress pad. It was billowy and dreamy, much like I always thought getting into bed should feel like. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Outstanding By L. Lancaster Huge difference from sleeping on just a mattress itself. Makes an extra firm very comfortable and still has the support I need for a bad back. Highly recommend this product.
