Great Speakers
By Greg James
I put these in the cockpit of my sailboat, hooked to a JVC 40watts x 4, and they sound really great. I'm pretty picky, and I hate crappy sounding speakers, over the years I've bought several pairs for about the same price; west marine, Pioneer, Sony's etc, and they have all sounded cheap. But these are well worth the money. They sound better than speakers costing twice as much. The most impressive thing is the bass; they really put it out. I was thinking about a sub, but they sound good enough without one, that I'm not going to waste the money. I can crank them almost all the way up without any distortion, these are truly great speakers, you won't be disappointed.

You can't go wrong with alpine!
By wayne-o
Just installed 2 pairs, of these speakers in my 21 foot searay powered by a pioneer head unit rated at 50 watts x 4, these speakers crank and they look sharp as well. Sound quality and clarity was very good, decent bass too, not earth shaking but good enough to have loud music on the boat that everyone can hear without distortion. I was able to turn up the volume to 43 out of a max of 50 before the speakers distorted a bit. An amp would really make these things crank, but if your on an budget this set up will do well for most. Im sure adding a powered sub alone would make the above setup sound perfect. Maybe Next season..... A little tip the positive and neg terminals were not marked you need to read the diagram on the box to see which one is + and -Subwoofer Add on update 7/15/2012. I finally added a sub to the above setup, and this thing cranks. They extra bass pulls it all together very nice. The alpines are very clear and clean sounding and the 8inch marine 250watt Bazooka tube is just amazing. This system goes louder than I would ever need it to go and there is not any distortion at all, yes I only run it at 75% volume but there is no need to go any louder. This system is sick for the money. My boats system is complete!!!!!

Not a bad sounding speaker
By Bill
I wanted to replace the stock (real cheap) speakers which came in my 18' Searay BR, somehow I came across these. I am an audiophile and I wanted something to sound good but since the boat only has a Sony 55wpc cd player in it I didn't really feel I needed to spend 100's of dollars on speakers at this time. I know Alpine makes good car audio and I understand that company's which make electronics don't usually make good speakers. I installed these yesterday and I have to say they sound pretty dam good. Bass is not real deep but clean and better than expected, and the highs have decent detail. With my installation I would say there is a lack in the mid range but I may be able to make this up with the Sony's EQ. I gave them 5 stars because for 57 bucks ($99 most other places)I think I got a great deal and I would bet I would have to spend over 200 to get ones I'd be happier with. They are built well and look good installed. When the box arrived I was shocked how heavy it was. For $57 I expected a much lighter design. If your budget is around a $100 for boat speakers, I would say give these a listen. As others have said it is hard to find the + side of the speaker connection. You need to look on the box and look at the wire drawing, not the speaker drawing. There is no manual in the box, it is all written on the back of the box which is not really a bad idea. Hint , it's the large spade terminal. FYI - They are made in China.
