I've been a guitarist since I was 9 and I'm 45 now. Unfortunately my voice was not as blessed as my voice but I still enjoy singing. I've got quite a collection of microphones-decent but all under the $500 price range. For recording vocals this is my favorite. The tube really rounds out the rough edges in my voice gives nice warmth to it over all. I did a lot of research on the web and sites like gearslutz.com and found that you can change out the tube on this and really change the characteristics of this mic. I purchased a few different tubes and now the mic is even more versatile. You really can't go wrong at the price point for this mic and have a nice tube condenser in your bag of tricks!

I bought this mic at Guitar Center years ago because it was inexpensive but was I in for a surprise.............this thing sounds so good on vocals that I thought I had my Neumann U-47 up instead. It has become my first go-to mic on vocals since my U-47 got stolen. It also sounds great on acoustic guitar! MXL's service is incredible too! I was trying different tubes and I shorted something out so I shipped the mic back to MXL and they sent me a brand new one back, no questions asked!!!I'm not saying this mic will replace your $10,000 vintage Neumanns but you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good a $200 mic can sound!!!!At this price you can't go wrong!!!!

MXL 9000 Tube Condenser Microphone is my first Tube Condenser Mic. It replaced the MXL 990 that I was using. Right away I could hear the warmth and clarity of the vocals. For the price I have no complains, great sound and no technical issue. I am recording with Pro Tools, very good combination. Good for any musician or producer looking for that warm clean sound without breaking the bank.
