Product Description
The Fluval 105 Aquarium Canister Filter offers advanced pumping technology and a versatile combination of mechanical, biological and chemical filtering capabilities for aquariums up to 25 gallons. This versatility enables you to customize your aquarium environment to meet the specialized needs of your unique collection of fish and aquatic plants. The Fluval 105 Aquarium Canister Filter provides 35-55% more volume than would be possible with round canisters of the same outer dimensions. Increased volume means a greater mass of filter material and a larger filtration area. Fluval filters multiply this advantage by directing water into complex flow paths for greatly increased contact with filter media. The Fluval 05 Series filters offer several state-of-the-art features to ensure reliable operation and trouble-free maintenance. The AquaStop valve creates an air- and water-tight seal so you can disconnect hosing without breaking the vacuum that will be necessary to resume operation without priming. The media baskets equipped with the Fluval 105 Aquarium Canister Filter are self-contained and interchangeable so that the media can be replaced independently. Media is packed into filter baskets in the recommended positions for basic filtration in order to save you time, and the instant prime handle ensures an easy startup. The Fluval 105 Aquarium Canister Filter is held securely in place by the lift-lock clamps and is the perfect choice for discerning aquarists who want to achieve maximum versatility and premium performance for their aquariums. The Fluval motor is hermetically sealed to ensure reliable operation and it does not require coolant. Besides the impeller, there are no moving parts. The ribbed, opaque hosing bends and turns easily without kinking, making installation and removal easier while supporting better water flow. Holding the intake and output valve in place securely is the innovative rim connector which slides on and snaps together instantly.

Amazing canister filter!
By S. Jahn
About 10 years ago I was researching filters for my turtle tank because it was too difficult to do water changes with the bigger tank I bought for her (30 gal). All the reviews I read said that the Fluval x04 series filters were the best out there so I put down the money for a 104 model and never looked back. I had the Fluval 104 filter for about 10 years before the motor finally gave up last week, waaaay beyond the 3yr warranty that came with it.To be fair, the 104 was the first canister filter I had ever purchased but I was so happy with it that when it finally died, I immediately replaced it with this newer 105 model. It's super quiet, and easy to setup with the detailed instructions. The best part is how easy it is to clean, just close the aquastop system and take the filter with you to clean where it's convenient. I know this sounds like a commercial but I really love this filter; this is the first review I've ever written just because I'm that happy with it. Hopefully this one will last another 10 years at which point I'll buy another one. FYI: The tank is a 30 gal filled 2/3 with water and houses my 6" painted turtle and the occasional fish and I only clean the filter about twice a year as needed.

Perfect for Smaller Tanks
By wunderschonen
After reading reviews for weeks to determine what kind of filter to buy I decided I wanted a canister filter. Unfortunately there aren't many affordable canister filters for small aquariums. Despite some iffy reviews on major pet store sites, this filter is absolutely perfect. The water in my tank is crystal clear and the ammonia levels are zero. This filter has greatly decreased the amount of time I spend cleaning my tank as well. There's practically nothing to manually clean!Included in one of those iffy reviews was a comment about leaking. I have to say that I've had no problems with this at all. When setting up the system make sure to apply the gasket and impeller cover correctly. Also, make sure you don't cut the hose too short, a little slack is fine.Tank Size: 10 gallonsStock: 1 Red Clawed Crab, 7 Neon Tetra, 1 Male Betta, 3 Sumatran Kuhli Loaches, 5 Cherry Shrimp (Yup, that's way too many animals in such a small tank, but they're all very healthy and happy)

Great for Nano Reef
By Brett Nieman
Using this in my 20 gallon Nano Reef and keeps the water absolutely sparkling. A friend even commented on how it didn't look like a saltwater tank because it was "too clean". Without running a skimmer or sump/refugium, this combined with the live rock in the tank do a great job in all aspects of mechanical and biological filtration. I clean it out every couple weeks which is super fast and easy, and never have any problems with excessive nitrates from running a cannister in a reef system.
