If you plan to use this grinder with sandpaper, be aware that you need an extra shim in addition to the rubber backing pad. I ordered the grinder plus a DW4945 rubber backing pad but for the life of me could not get the pad, paper, and locking nut all onto the spindle - the spindle was too short. Removal of the yellow rubber washer/seal allowed me to install it but it the rubber backing pad rubbed.After a couple emails to Dewalt and two trips to the local service center, I find out there is a service bulletin addressing this issue which affects not just the D28131 but a number of other grinder models as well. It reads:"The current spindle design on these units allows the DW4945 Rubber Backing Pad to continue to tighten during use to the point where it may rub against the gear case. Installing 5140030-98 shim washer on the spindle ahead of the backing pad will prevent this problem. This shim is to be provided free-of-charge to customers using the rubber backing pad. The spindle is being redesigned so that the shim washer will no longer be needed."Two stars because 1) it took me two trips to find this out when I'd think the first email to Dewalt would suffice and 2) The bulletin is dated June 1, 2006. I purchased my grinder just a few weeks ago. So it doesn't appear that the spindle is "being redesigned." You'd think by now Dewalt would just include the shim washer and a heads up with either the grinder or backing pad when purchased.

Excellent little grinder (4-1/2"). Plenty of power to do heavy grinding jobs and small enough to fit in close quarters work. It's going to take some getting use to the side trigger after using paddle style triggers for 30 years. I highly recommend this tool.
