This support is excellent for keeping the arm and hand elevated above the heart after surgery. The support is spacious enough to allow you to insert one or more ice packs around the arm and wrist. It is very comfortable, you can sleep all night with the arm poperly positioned. Keeping the arm / hand elevated and cool kept my hand from swelling, prevented bruising and kept me from having to take pain medication. I am an RN, who had thumb reconstruction, and highly recommend this support.
