mislabeled sheepskin
By gmajeri
After reading several complaints about the Bowron One Pelt Gold Star Rug that were similar to a complaint I had about this pelt, I contacted Bowron directly. In brief, I will share what they told me. This is a single pelt rug, and is not a Baby product. They do sell baby product pelts that are tanned differently than their Gold Star rugs. The difference is that even though ALL rugs are tanned without toxic chemicals, the baby product pelts are chosen for extra softness, and are thoroughly scrutinized for loose hair, and are tanned a special way so they will withstand more washings. The floor rugs (single pelts) like this One Pelt Gold Star Rug that we purchased do not go through the same tanning process, nor do they go through the scrutiny that the baby products do. Additionally, according to Bowron, these single pelt rugs have been mislabled and I was guaranteed that they are NOT treated with flame retardant. I have been asked to supply Bowron with a photo of the flame retardant label so they can further investigate. Bowron explained that treating with flame retaradant is an expensive process, and the bigger multipelt rugs must be treated with flame retardant to comply with US regulations, which Bowron must adhere to, even though that is not their preference, but the single pelt rugs are not treated. I found Bowron to be very professional and helpful in answering all of my questions. If you have complaints, I again suggest you contact them. These products are excellent and I am convinced safe for use with my grandchildren. But, if in doubt, you could return this rug and just be sure to get the Babycare products that they offer.

Beware of FLAME RETARDANT CHEMICALS!
By Roach
Nowhere in the item description does it mention that this rug has been treated with flame retardant chemicals. But it comes with a sticker on the back that clearly states that is has flame retardant. This is absolutely absurd. Both wool and leather (the only two "components" of this pelt rug) are naturally flame resistant. There is evidence flame retardants may be dangerous and harmful, especially to infants.[...]Why then is this advertised as a baby sleeping rug with no mention of the flame retardant chemicals used? We bought this as a sleeping pad for our 4 month old daughter, but unfortunately she will not be able to use it due to the potentially hazardous chemicals that were not mentioned in the product description.

bowron rug
By John W Ellis
The rug is very nice and soft, not very big which is what we wanted. We thought the color wouldn't be so white since it shows a brownish color, but it is white. Very good value for the price.
