Product Description
Colgate has been making top rated crib mattresses for more than half a century. This crib mattress differs in degrees of firmness on each side. It has a super firm side for newborns and infants and less firm side for more comfort for toddlers. The Classica 3 mattress uses the same foam as the top rated Classica crib mattress series for its firmer side. Made with non-allergenic, orthopedic foam with ventilated border and a waterproof, nylon reinforced triple laminate cover. It is lightweight for easy handling.

Beautiful and Firm, but Use a Mattress Wrap
By Mariah Sweet
I bought this at the recommendation of the Baby Bargains book. It's a lovely foam mattress with an attractive plastic cover. The firm side is very firm and the soft side is appropriate for a toddler. It fits very snuggly and safely into the crib we bought (the BabyMod Olivia) and standard crib sheets fit nice and tight. It's light and easy to change sheets. The only concern I have with this is the vague "mattress scent" that it has. I realize pretty much all mattresses have that scent... and I wish they didn't. I aired the mattress out for a month and the scent lessened noticeably, but when I put my face against it I can still smell plastic. I don't know if this is off-gassing or simply the scent inherent to plastic. We haven't used this mattress with our baby yet (due in February 2009), but I don't doubt it'll be a wonderful infant mattress.I'm planning to wrap it in a polyethylene mattress wrap (BabeSafe), in case the suspicions about off-gassing prove to be true. I felt a little funny about mattress wrapping at first (seems paranoid), but the BabeSafe wrap also works as a mattress protector. So it protects from both sides (the mattress from the baby; the baby from the mattress fumes). If you don't want to invest in in organic mattress (I surely did not, too expensive) then I would recommend combining this foam mattress with a polyethylene mattress wrap.I'm only giving this three stars at this point because I haven't tested it with an infant. I think this may be a 4+ * mattress, but that's yet to be determined.
