Like Nikon in the binocular market, Kowa is a Japanese manufacturer providing near-Swiss class glass at half the price of Leica, Swarovski (I know they're Austrian), or Zeiss (I know they're German).The 660 series includes this angled design and its straight sibling, the 664. I chose this model for portability and ruggedness as much as for the glass, and I could probably carry the larger and same priced 77 mm non-Prominar on the trail, out on a jetty, or into an oozing marsh. I stepped down in size to afford the Prominar on a friend's advice, and am very glad I did. Fitted with the 20-60x zoom eyepiece, only at 60x do the edges of the field begin to darken. Design is great for birding in all conditions, especially extreme cold because the focus knob is operable in mittens.If you want to graduate into birding with your own scope, I highly recommend this model and will be buying Kowa again when I get an 88mm.
