WoodlineUSA 24 Piece Router Bit Set
By Steven Stromer
When the WoodlineUSA 24 Piece Router Bit Set set was selling for the retail price listed at the manufacturer's site, WoodlineUSA.com, I wasn't inclined to buy, but with a sudden price drop of 70% recently, I couldn't resist. Other reviews here had been generally positive, and I decided it was worth the gamble. When I first received the set, I was disappointed. The box and bits looked and smelled Chinese made. The protective wax over the cutter heads was yellowed, the shanks has spots of rust on them, and the ends of the shanks revealed the generally cheap steel hidden under the mediocre paint application. Even the protective foam had yellowed in the box. Worst of all, two of the bits had small chips on the carbide cutting edges. However, I decided to see what could be salvaged. First, I removed the protective wax, an hour task in itself, if you don't want to damage the blades (I wonder if there is a better way to remove the wax than by manual effort...). Then, I cleaned the rust spots from the shanks by rotating in a synthetic-fiber cleaning pad (man-made steel wool). Next, I coated the shanks in Boshield T-9 to stop future rust. Next, I tossed the yellowed foam from the case and lightly sanded the wooden interior. Finally, I contacted WoodlineUSA via their toll free number, and explained that two bits had arrived with chipped cutters. They immediately offered to send out replacements, free of charge. I now await their arrival, though I doubt I'll experience any problem. All in all, the set now looks a whole lot more presentable.I'm not sure though whether I'd say this was a wise purchase. I finally had the chance to visit a Woodcraft store a few days ago, and took a first look at their self-branded twenty bit starter set. I have to say that for the price, I was very, very impressed. True, Woodcraft's set is a full 'bill' more than the Woodline set, but time and work are money, and the WoodlineUSA bits will never match the Woodcraft bits no matter what you do to them. If you can't shell out the extra money, I'd say that WoodlineUSA is the way to go, but only because they have such a wonderful customer service attitude; without this, I simply wouldn't be able to recommend the brand at all. If you can spend a few more dollars, check out the Woodcraft option. Price wise, the Woodcraft bits are a bargain next to the brand names, and are actually comparable in quality, if not there all of the way. However, for once-in-awhile use, the WoodlineUSA bits should suffice.(See my posted images. They were all taken prior to cleanup.)

Average priced with lifetime warranty
By A. J. Vello
I bought this for my brother as a Christmas present. After doing a large amount of research, there were three major brands I was looking at. This one happened to be the cheapest of the three, and came with a lifetime warranty. The other brands may have as well, though they were at least double the price.
