These insulated water's work really well. I had one for a couple years for my horse and bought this one for my husbands horse. My husbands horse didnt like the float that keeps ice from forming..so we had to remove her's inorder to insure she was drinking enough water. So, during sustained week long sub-zero temps up here in NY you can expect to find a small layer of ice to form on top by morning,... but its nothing substantial and will easily break with a gloved hand. It probably helps that we also add 1 gal of HOT tap water to the 5 gal water bucket to offset the coldness of well water and to encourage the horses to drink more during winter months. It arrived in good condition. And we love that they dont have any sharp edges like the home-made plywood ones filled with insulation.

Well packed when arrived and super strong waterers our horses love them. Durable and they are well made also. Will buy again.
