Works well, soldering dose not melt it. Its heavy enough, as it is, in most cases. I have one of these at work, and this one, I got for my self at home...

I'm using the clamp to hold a variety of different optics for testing in a lab environment. Crank action is very smooth and allows for a fine touch. The reversable neoprene pads which were included are also useful for handling a variety of shapes.

The base works very well but arrived with scratches, possibly someone elses return, which is typical of the stuff often I recieve from Amazon (grrrr)The 396 head works well but takes forever to make large changes to jaw opening width, it needs a release device so it can be quickly adjusted.
