It works, but...
By Steven Chin
It was simple to install and it worked immediately. It fixed my color laser printer, but the complaint that I have is not the imaging kit, but the cost of the fix. I bought the entire color laser printer for about $100, but this imaging kit cost over $100. This means that it is more cost effective to buy a brand new one and not fix this one. That would have been wasteful, so as much as I hated to spend more money to fix it, I went ahead and bought this imaging kit. I am hoping that this imaging unit last at least a couple of years to assuage the insanity of the relative cost of the fix. My comment to the manufacturer is that they design more robust parts and if not, have a 3 year warranty instead of the 1 year warranty (which may imply that they are only responsible financially if the system only last one year which is not a good product...printer that is).

Samsung Imaging Unit - Saved the Day
By L. Richard Heward
It's been over a year since I purchased this imaging Unit. Wanted to wait and see what the longevity of this product would be. I've been very pleased with this purchase. Highly recommend it to you. We give our printer a good work out and it just begs for more. The shipping was quick and packaging superb. Just took out the old imaging unit and popped in the new one and we were back up and running again. You can't go wrong with this one.

Works great while it does, but...

...save the receipt and the shipping materials! Chances are good that you had to buy a new imaging unit for the CLP-300 because of vertical fade lines on the paper. A new imaging unit WILL fix that problem... for a time. The problem lies in a design flaw in which toner builds up in the imaging unit on the individual color drums. Since black is used most often, you'll likely notice faded text before you'll see fading images, but the principle is the same. Over time, this toner build-up prevents transfer of toner to the paper, resulting in vertical fade lines about 2 inches into the left side of the sheet.I confirmed with Samsung that the new imaging unit has a 1-year warranty on it. So if you print a LOT, you may end up calling them for a warranty replacement. If it takes longer than a year for the vertical lines to appear, well... chalk it up to the cost of owning this particular model of laser printer. I still find it more cost-effective than buying a bunch of ink for an inkjet printer. There ARE instructions online, replete with photos, on how to disassemble the imaging unit to clean it; if you're mechanically inclined, you'll always have one in the printer and one in standby. As an electronics guy, however, I am a weapon of mass destruction with a screwdriver in my hand. So I get to pay for a new one every once in awhile.Bottom line: the CLP-300 is a great laser printer and the imaging unit works great as long as that toner's not built up. Once it does, however, it's a repair or replace decision.
